Syndicates: How Group Play Increases Your Odds

A lottery syndicate, or group play, is a simple and effective strategy: a group of people pools their money to buy a larger number of tickets, agreeing to share any winnings. The primary benefit is purely mathematical. If you buy one ticket for a draw, you have one chance to win. If your syndicate of 20 colleagues buys 100 tickets, your group has 100 chances to win. While you have to split the prize, your probability of winning anything at all is significantly increased.

The key to a successful syndicate is a clear, written agreement. This document should outline who is participating, how much each person contributed, how the winnings will be divided, and what happens if a regular member misses a payment for a specific draw. Without a contract, 'office pool' wins have often led to complex legal battles. When managed correctly, however, syndicates are a fantastic way to enjoy the game socially while improving your statistical standing in the draw.
